What is SEO?

The term SEO, is short for “Search Engine Optimization”. SEO is the process of optimizing a website to place it as high as possible in the search engine index. Google, Bing and Yahoo are a few examples of such search engines (SE).
Around 93% of all online activities starts at the search engines query page, which is why SEO is important. When people want to find something online, they go straight to their favorite search engine and type the keywords which they feel describes what they seek. Less than a second later, the SE returns a list of websites which, in that specific moment, is the most relevant to those exact keywords the user queried.
Google is king. Of the wide variety of SE, google drives more searches than all the other combined.
Essentially, SEO is about figuring out which keywords the users in your business area are using and then optimizing your website towards these.
A related term is SERP. This is the abbreviation of a websites “Search Engine Ranking Position”, which is the official term for a websites position in the index. If a websites SERP equals 1, the website would be placed in the top position of the search index.
